Manuka Honey, unique to New Zealand, has
incredible and reliable health-giving properties and can be used as a natural
remedy to assist with an array of health conditions. Manuka Honey works against
a wide range of bacteria including the causes of stomach ulcers, sore throats
and major wound infections. This honey has also proven to be effective in
helping the natural healing of skin ulcers, burns, boils, cracked skin and the
"superbug" MRSA.
Manuka Health Europe to replace UMF with MGOTM
 |
Manuka Health Europe has pioneered a new,
scientifically proven testing method which shows that a naturally occurring
compound, methylgloxal (MGOTM), is the dominant anti-bacterial
constituent of Manuka Honey. The discovery was made by Dr Thomas Henle of the
University of Dresden, who announced his breakthrough early 2008.
|
The lowest strength Manuka Honey sold by Wellbeing is certified to contain at
least 100mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal (MGOTM), the minimum
required to be an effective health product.
The following conversion table helps compare Active UMF Manuka Honey with MGOTM
Manuka Honey:
UMF 10+ MANUKA HONEY = MGOTM 100
UMF 16+ MANUKA HONEY = MGOTM 250
UMF 20+ MANUKA HONEY = MGOTM 400
UMF 25+ MANUKA HONEY = MGOTM 550
For the interim period Wellbeing will be showing the descriptions for both MGOTM
and Active UMF.
Active UMF Manuka Honey
UMF - Unique Manuka Factor refers to an antibacterial agent produced naturally
by the nectar of some strains of Manuka plants. Not all Manuka Honey has this
property, and those that do vary in their level of UMF activity. The level of
UMF has to be 10 or higher for honey to have reliable health properties. The
higher the level of UMF, the higher the antibacterial properties of the honey.
